A new tune from The Phantom’s Revenge dropped just a few days ago. It’s quite the banger and with 8 remixes you’re bound to find at least one you’ll like. I’m really loving the organ work in the original. Right up there with Boy 8-bit’s Chapel Of Ghouls. If only this had come out before Halloween!

I figured it was about time I started doing some interviews on the site, so for the first one I went big and got Phra from the Crookers to answer a few of my questions.

CJ: Your upcoming album, Tons of Friends, is a different style from most of your previous works, what can we expect from it?

Phra: Yes, it’s not a 12 club tracks album…or a 12 Day N Night rmx album, it’s more what we like to listen to in our car when we are going to the airport… So actually it’s airport music to listen to on an iPod near the security control and when you’re waiting at the gate. Don’t expect nothin from this album if you don’t have to go to the airport!

CJ: Was it different for you sitting down and nailing out a whole album and not just another EP?

Phra: No differences, we worked the album about 2 years in free time between rmxs and gigs so it was kinda a way to work on something different in between..make sense?

CJ: Have there been any songs that you heard and instantly knew you wanted to do a remix of?

Phra: Sometimes…but if I really like a song it’s actually difficult for me / or Bot to rmx it! We don’t want to touch the magic of the original.

CJ: Any current obsessions, music or otherwise?

Phra: Toys

CJ: Who’s your favorite new artist on the scene right now?

Phra: Hudson Mohawke is incredible!

CJ: Lastly, I know you love animals, but what animal would you be?

I was having a chat with my Mom yesterday about people still saying Merry Christmas a few days after Christmas has ended. After trying to put together a tracklist for Designer Drugs’ new mix this morning I started to very intently look for one of the tracks that I’d never heard before. It turned out to be this amazing remix of The Bravery by Villians. I remember back in November The Bravery dropped their Slow Poison remixes EP and everyone seemed to instantly flock to the Drop The Lime remix, but after comparing the two I think the Villains remix really hasn’t gotten as much attention as it should have.

I know I’m long overdue for a Mega Post. I had one set up a while ago but I deleted the draft and then promptly forgot about it. Yesterday, as I was looking at Facebook, I saw some people commenting about the awesome new Burns track in DJ Mehdi’s MixMas mix was. So I looked through my library and was surprised to see I had almost all his remixes already.

Really happy when I opened up Google Reader this morning and saw this. The first single from Ocelot‘s new album is being given away for free! Over the next couple of weeks they’ll be giving away a few more remixes by Bird Peterson, Calvertron and Treasure Fingers. I remember seeing a video for this song way back in 2008 and at the time it just blew me away so I’m glad to finally see this great track get released.

Herve and Trevor Loveys have been busy recording new Voodoo Chilli tracks and last week everyone finally got a taste of what they’ve been up to. In my opinion what Herve has done so far (Titans EP) is even better than Duck Sauce. Adding Trevor Loveys to the mix only makes things that much better. They’ve worked together before under the name Speaker Junk so it’s no surprised that they’d be able to come up with great classic house track.
