What an incredible ride it’s been. Chemical Jump is now officially one year old! To sort of celebrate I thought I’d take the chance to give you all a little back story on why I started blogging.
My main reason for starting the site was because all the other blogs I read at the time didn’t consistently post the tracks I liked. I wanted a one stop shop that was conformed to my taste. Soon after coming to that conclusion I realized pretty quickly it wouldn’t ever happen unless I was the one doing the posting. So I set off with a mission to create a blog.
After a few hours of brainstorming for a name one night I finally decided on one, Velvet Nightlight. I went to sleep content and excited to start off in this new realm of blogging. When I woke up the next day, all I could think to myself was “WTF kind of a name is Velvet Nightlight! It sounds way too girly to ever be anything cool”. Another few hours a brainstorming later and I decided on a new name, Chemical Jump. From there it was a quick hop over to wordpress.com and a few clicks on the mouse later I was blogging. You can check out my first ever post here. I’d almost call it a mission statement as it still holds true today.
Anyway, the first few months blogging was pretty painful on my ego. The site was only getting a handful of pageviews a day and around 100-200 a month. It was definitely not what I expected. If nobody was reading and listening to the music, what the point? Despite the low hits I carried on because I enjoyed posting the music that I love. Slowly but surely the site grew and grew. Now only a year later Chemical Jump is getting around 150,000 pageviews a month and still growing!
Another saga in the story began earlier this month when I made the Chemical Jump Forum. I really expected it to be a lot like when I first started Chemical Jump. Only a handful of people would stop by and at the most there’d be a few posts a day. I was completely blow away when I checked the stats to see that on the first day the forum had 10,000 pageviews and 200 posts!
I really couldn’t be happier with the way things turned out. I just wanna say that I deeply appreciate everyone that’s read the site and commented over the past year. Without you guys this place wouldn’t be what it is today.
Here’s to another year of awesome music!
P.S. I did sign up on blogspot with the Velvet Nightlight name and much to my surprise, it’s still up. http://velvetnightlight.blogspot.com/
