It’s been a long three months, but we finally have a new Datamix courtesy of Designer Drugs. As usual they didn’t release the tracklist, although this time they held a contest to see who could correct guess the tracklist. I guess they wanted to share in all the fun we usually have putting it together in the comments! We’ll get it next time!

Jaymo and Andy George have been sitting in for Annie for the past week or two and Breakbot happened to stopped by last Friday with one of those famous 5 minute Annie Mac minimixes. I almost didn’t realize how much funk could be packed into only 5 minutes until I heard this. Sadly there’s no tracklist for this amazing mix. If you guys feel up to the monumental task of putting one together, leave what you hear in the comments.

Just wanted to let you all know I did a guest blog post over on Erol Alkan’s label Phantasy. They put out some pretty huge tunes last year from Boris Dlugosch’s Bangkok to Riton & Primary 1′s Who’s There? and most recently Boys Noize & Erol Alkan’s new singles Avalanche & Lemonade. It’s nothing long as per my usual, just a short talk about Dance Area.
Head on over to Phantasy and check it out!

Still trying to wrap my head around last nights streaming of Ultra fest. Whoever was in charge of it had some strange love affair with Digweed and bad trance music. After they got their act together and finally switched to The Bloody Beetroots I got my first real impression of Death Crew 77. Bob ran around a bunch screaming and playing everything his hands touched, Tommy did an awful lot of clapping when he wasn’t mixing songs together, and Edward just killed the drums like nobody’s business. All in all it was a fantastic performance, but I still enjoy their DJ sets over the live band style. Kudos for trying something new though.

Herve just released a nice little single called Zombies off his next mix album, Ghetto Bass 2. Ghetto Bass 1 was just a thing of beauty if you ask me, so I’ve been eagerly awaiting #2 for quite awhile now. Along with the Zombies single, Herve unleashed a brand new track called Hot! Drum Attack. As you would expect it has excellent drum work and a big nasty Herve drop that you’ll love.

Solid Bump is officially in the running for one of my top labels this year. They just released Vol. 2 of their Pleasure & Pressure series which features tracks from Le Principle, Mykill, White Girl Lust, Meroz, and Laberge. They’ve sent along a track by one of their newest artists, Mykill, that isn’t included in the release. I just got my hands on this volume earlier today and was literally dancing in my chair for a half hour while listening to it. Electro may get your fist in the air, but disco moves your whole body. Look out for Solid Bump to do some massive things in 2010 with disco house music.

This is a very happy time for me. I feel like The Bloody Beetroots have finally gotten back to that classic sound I knew and loved when I first heard them. And with Death Crew 77, (live band/DJ set) they’re changing the game once again. Domino blows you away with a crazy build up and an amazingly solid beat, then 31 Seconds To Die brings you back down to reality with a few soft strings. If Domino is the best pizza in the world, 31 Seconds To Die is the drink you use to wash it down. And here I thought 2009 would be the year of the Beetroot… Boy was I wrong.
