Kaskade – Essential Mix 9/10/11 Posted by: Nate in Electronic

It’s almost been the perfect storm of winning for Kaskade the past few months. First he headlines the first ever traveling electronic music festival, Identity. Then he was picked as the best DJ in America (Skrillex got second, so don’t hold too much to that) and he’s now doing an essential mix. I always think it’s funny to see a short essential mix tracklist like this. I’ve noticed that artists that got their start mainly producing (Kaskade, Avicii, Afrojack) tend to play out tracks a lot longer than most would. They almost have completely different mind sets when it comes to how long they think a track should be played. Not that there’s anything wrong with playing a track out, I just find it interesting.

Yeah….i know what you mean, i think this happens because since there are producers mainly, they probably think that if they don’t play the track entirely, its integrity will be compromise that why i think they don’t have the same mindset as a “pure” dj for lack of a better word. I personally have dj A.D.D. i always track to mix the next track as quick as possible.

these posts are coming off more and more pretentious. if you don’t like the guys why do you post them?

Haha I didn’t mean for it to sound pretentious at all! I was just saying what I thought about producers DJing. I loved Kaskade’s set at Identity.

another thing i noticed while listening through the essential mixes is that people who are famous for their own production also plays alot more of their own tracks. selfpromotion, egoboost or maybe just love for their own production, who knows? but i definately prefer a essential mix with new songs everyone havent heard 15 times

It also has a lot more to do with the type of music they’re playing, some dirty grimy house can’t be played out long because it needs to change quickly so the audience doesn’t get bored of it. With Kaskade’s anthemy house music he wants to play it out because the song builds for longer than say, a Foamo or Major Lazer song. The second build is is often much, much longer (and IMO, better) than the first and leads to a more euphoric drop, if he switched out during the middle you would never hear the build (and also the second build often works out better if you’ve heard the first). And some of Afrojack’s remixes and productions actually drop different the second time and build to a higher crescendo than the first go around, but use elements o the first hook in the second.
