JOHN ROMAN – Proxy, Shut Up Remix Posted by: Paul in Electronic

It’s crazy how much seeing something live can make you appreciate it so much more. Listening to music on headphones or some run of the mill home stereo system just doesn’t cut it.

This new wave of dark sounding techno music that has emerged over the last year or so didn’t strike my interest at first. But after seeing someone like Gesaffelstein play my eyes are wide open.

The remix of Proxy’s Shut Up by John Roman falls into this category for me. It starts with a stead ring of airy ominous noise you might hear on a halloween spooky sounds sampler cd, all overlayed with a crisp and bassey beat. The first minute of the track doesn’t do too much but at 1:45 it drops back with a vengence.

I just heard this for the first time… too bad I’m stuck at work and not standing infront of a pair of subwoofers.

I’ve also been seeing Roman’s track Petrified floating around the airwaves…  Parts of it I think are dope, and others I’m gonna be honest I don’t know what to think of. Maybe it’s just another track I need to hear on some big ass speakers. Let me know your thoughts.

John Roman is on a come up right now. I think he’s one of the most talented names in techno at the moment. I agree with you on Petrified- but I promise the first time you hear it played out on a club system you will love it. Not something I’d listen to on my iPhone earbuds though, by any means.

Both tracks are killer. Really want “Proxy – Shut Up (John Roman Remix)” for the Halloween mix :D
