New track from Ghastly! Open The Gates is some moody dubstep from another young buck producer on the up and up. Not normally a huge dubstep fan, but this guy moves around genres and experiments with all sorts of stuff and I’m always a fan of a risk taker. He’s got a background in metal which makes the transition to dance music kind of a no-brainer. Honestly. There is so much overlap. Metal is being co-opted and appropriated into dance tracks almost everywhere you look. It is seminal to every banger you’ve ever heard. Think Justice, Bloody Beetroots, MSTRKRFT. They all have metal and fast rock to thank. In that same vein, Ghastly! brings his background and puts it to use in his own fashion. Check it out.

Haha intelligent aggressive? Is this slang I don’t know? Glad you’re digging the jam!

Been sain that for years. Myself and by buds all came from The Metal haha. I remember when DFA 1979 broke up and MSTRKRFT arose. I was surprised with myself wondering. . “why does this sound appeal to me?”
That’s my story.. ohh and cool song!

Yeah, man. It seems like there are a lot of converts, but try convincing metal heads that aren’t into electro that there’s overlap, they won’t have it. Ha! I remember hearing MSTRKRFT and resisting liking them because of ideas I had about “techno” when I didn’t know about the finer nuances and sects of electronic music. I justified liking it because they were linked to DFA1979 and JFK and a few other acronyms. Hilarious how it’s not good enough to just like something. You gotta like it and then find a way to make it socially acceptable and cool. Stupid. Britney Spears’ — Toxic: One of the best beats of all time. Gimme More is pretty sweet too. She’s got some killa beats. Bit of a tangent…
