It sucks to only be on the internet around 1 hour a day now, because I tend to miss a lot more than I could have ever thought. Thankfully that’ll change come Friday, but for now I’m busy playing catch up on some great tracks that have dropped. I was surprised there wasn’t more hype around this track especially since it feels like it could be a huge rave tune. One of the things I like the most about collab tracks like this is that if you know each producers styles really well you can pick out the elements in the track by each person, like Zinc’s drums for instance.

I usually don’t comment on tracks in IJLTH posts, but this one warrants it. Because while the drop half way through Future Funk is pretty huge and original, Tommy Trash uses the same exact synth as he did in The End for the break down parts. Sure it may work well mixing together and a lot of people will probably think it’s the same track, but if you’re making something completely new and marketing it as such, you shouldn’t blatantly use old elements from past tracks. Especially from one you just released. I really hate to rant on the track like that, especially one that I like, but I just hate it when I see lazy production like this. I really enjoy the track, but every time that synth comes on a little large part of me dies inside.

If you follow A-Trak just about anywhere you might have seen the news yesterday that he’s starting up a radio show on Sirius XM’s Electric Area called, naturally, Fools Gold Radio. The mix isn’t exactly a typical A-Trak DJ set, but if I get to hear a new A-Trak mix each month I’m not complaining. It always feels like it’s been forever since the last A-Trak remix popped up (my calendar says March) but whatever the case he’s back now. Robyn uploaded his latest remix on her SoundCloud yesterday and sparked nearly 20,000 plays already. I’d definitely say this remix is one of my favorites by him and even on par with his Yeah Yeah Yeahs remix. It’s the perfect summer tune for the beginning of winter.

Well it’s certainly been a fun week around here. Some of you may have been online Monday when I went on Ustream and spun some records for an hour. A lot of people asked if it was going to be a new weekly thing and after having so much fun with it, I couldn’t see a reason not to. So here’s my favorites of 2009 post. Not necessarily the best tracks released this year, but they’re among the most played for me. I’m not gonna comment on each one since I’ve probably already done it on the blog before. I will say that it’s been an absolutely crazy year as far as electronic music goes. 2008 couldn’t touch 2009 and I’m sure the same will be said next year. After all, we have the new Daft Punk album to look forward to!
