I usually don’t comment on tracks in IJLTH posts, but this one warrants it. Because while the drop half way through Future Funk is pretty huge and original, Tommy Trash uses the same exact synth as he did in The End for the break down parts. Sure it may work well mixing together and a lot of people will probably think it’s the same track, but if you’re making something completely new and marketing it as such, you shouldn’t blatantly use old elements from past tracks. Especially from one you just released. I really hate to rant on the track like that, especially one that I like, but I just hate it when I see lazy production like this. I really enjoy the track, but every time that synth comes on a little large part of me dies inside.

It’s posts like this that I hope to never write, especially for such a young and talented person. DJ Mehdi passed away at the age of 34 this morning. The press is still reporting all different things about his death, but word seems to be that he feel through a roof at his home last night and died shortly there after.
I’m almost at a complete loss for words now. One of the things I remember most about seeing DJ Mehdi 3 years ago in LA is the huge grin on his face the entire time which he was DJing. He truly enjoyed making music and playing it for everyone. One of the greats of our time. You will be missed.
I’ll be listening to nothing but Mehdi tracks in remembrance today. Here’s one of my favorites.

The new brainchild of Riton and DJ Mehdi had internet life breathed into it today. The duo will be touring Europe and the US in May/June playing strictly house music. Last year seemed more like the year for super-duos, but the way things looking 2010 may bring the thunder. Their first EP is set to drop this May on Ed Banger.

I can’t even begin to explain how crazy busy week this week has been. If you sent me something on SoundCloud I promise I’m not ignoring you! Saw this pop up on the Ed Banger podcast earlier today and thought I should post it since I’ve already covered his remix album that’s about to drop. This 45 minute mix consists of, you guessed it, even more remixes by DJ Mehdi. DJ Mehdi‘s remix album Red, Black & Blue is set to drop November 2nd and its jam packed with some great tune. Some of them have obviously been released before, but a few I’m just now seeing for the first time. All the remixes are mixed together which is actually kinda nice. It’ll definitely be worth grabbing and throwing it on in your car for a long drive.
