I almost hate to say it, but this new Wolfgang Gartner track just doesn’t live up to par I’ve come to expect from him. I don’t want to completely hate on it since it feels like he may be experimenting and trying something slight different which is always good. But Having said that, there’s almost no getting past this insanely repetitive melody. It’s like he’s trying to be Avicii and create a big room house track to appease some Avicii fans, which would be fine if he was Avicii, but last time I checked he was still Wolfgang Gartner. He isn’t known for tracks like this and I hope he never is.

Whenever I meet someone new and start talking about the blog and electronic music I usually get asked the same question at some point, “Who should I listen to?”. Admittedly my response always varies a bit depending upon the person, but my go to answer for the past while has been Wolfgang Gartner. He’s one of the artists I see as a guiding light of sorts in todays world of electro with a sound that defines the genre more than I could explain it. And has If you ask me, Wolfgang should have been a lot higher on America’s top DJ list, but that’s a rant for another day.

Posting on a Saturday for me usually means 1 of 2 things. 1. This is actually a dream within a dream and I still think it’s a Friday or 2. A big artists did a really good essential mix last night. Thankfully it happens to be the latter..this time.. Wolfgang Gartner put together a a huge Essential Mix last night loaded with tunes and a few unreleased gems. I’ve only had a chance to listen to a little bit of it and I can already tell I’m gonna love it. I do have to HIGHLY disagree with Pete Tong saying that Wolfgang’s raise is “thanks mainly to red hot collaborations with Mark Knight and some bloke called Deadmau5, on a tune called Animal Rights” Are you kidding me Pete?! Wolfgang was popular as hell way before Animal Rights or Conscindo! Anyway, stupid comments from Pete Tong shouldn’t dampen your mood once you start listening to the mix.

Wolfgang Gartner is out with his next release Illmerica. Teased since forever, Wolfgang says he put 3 weeks and 300 hours into making this beast. I think I still prefer the drop in Undertaker, but overall I’m enjoying Illmerica more as a whole. Wolfgang is also busy working on an album right now which I’m crazy stoked for since you hardly ever see albums from artists like him. Be sure to pick up this track on Beatport if you dig it.
